Manhattan Theatre Club has announced upcoming productions for its 2023-24 season at New York City Center – Stage 1:

  Where the Mountain Meets the Sea (previews Oct. 11, opens Nov. 2, 2023), by Jeff Augustin, directed by Joshua Kahan Brody. A timely story of a son’s quest to connect with his father.

  the best we could (a family tragedy) (previews Feb. 7, 2023, opens Mar. 1) , world premiere by Emily Feldman, directed by Daniel Aukin.  A daughter’s road trip with her father becomes a theatrical journey across more that just state lines.

  King James (previews May 2, opens May 16, 2023), by Rajiv Joseph, directed by Kenny Leon, featuring Glen Davis and Chris Perfetti. Two Clevelanders are brought together by their mutual devotion to LeBron James.

  Summer, 1976 (2022-23 season, dates TBA), by David Auburn, directed by Daniel Sullivan.  Over one fateful summer, an unlikely friendship develops between Diana, a fiercely iconoclastic artists and single mom, and Alice, a free-spirited yet naive young housewife. As the Bicentennial is celebrated across the country, these two young women in Ohio navigate motherhood, ambition, and intimacy, and help each other discover their own independence.

  Poor Yella Rednecks (Fall 2023), by Qui Nguyenm, directed by May Adrales.  A family of Vietnamese immigrants settle in Arkansas.

  Manhattan Theatre Club will present Martyna Majok’s Cost of Living, with previews beginning Sept. 13, and an opening set for  Oct. 3 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, directed by Jo Bonney.

The play is about the forces that bring people together, the complexity of caring and being cared for, and the ways we all need each other in this world.

Melissa Etheridge: My Window – A Journey Though Life will run Oct. 13-29 at Off-Broadway’s New World Stages, directed by Amy Tinkham.

From tales of her childhood in Kansas to her groundbreaking career highlights – with all of life’s hits and deep cuts between – Etheridge opens her heart and soul on stage to fearlessly dazzle audiences of all generations.

  Theatre Aspen‘s third annual Solo Flights festival of solo shows will run Sept. 10-15.  The annual festival features works in the beginning stages of their journeys, and also includes talkbacks, creative discussions and panels, as well as special receptions.

  Joseph Dougherty’s Chester Bailey will run Oct. 12 – Nov. 13 (opening Oct. 19) at Irish Rep, directed by Ron Lagomarsino.

In a stateside hospital at the close of World War II, a young man recovers from catastrophic injuries. Or so the doctors have told him. But Chester Bailey denies what’s happened to him has actually happened, which is how he comes under the care of Dr. Philip Cotton. Older, wounded in his own ways, Cotton is charged with leading Chester back to reality. Their journey is not what either man expected.

Chicago’s Porchlight Music Theatre ‘s 2022 Icons Gala will take place Fri. Sept. 23 at 5:30 PM CT at The Ritz-Carlton Chicago.

In addition, the theatre will present its annual Icon Award to Donna McKechnie.

Ms. McKechnie will perform, as well as join Paul Lisnek for an intimate on-stage conversation.
