RIP: Tony Tanner died at his home in Los Angeles on Sept. 8 at the age of 89.
Born in London, Tanner worked in various British repertory theater companies during the 1950’s. By the early 1960s, he stepped in for Anthony Newley as Littlechap in Stop the World, I Want to Get Off, a role he reprised in the 1966 film adaptation.
Tanner made his Broadway debut replacing Tommy Steele in the original production of Half a Sixpence, and also appeared in No Sex Please, We’re British and Sherlock Holmes.
He directed & choreographed the Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, (receiving 2 Tony nominations) as well as directing & choreographing Something’s Afoot and Prince of Central Park. and directing A Taste of Honey and Gorey Stories on Broadway.
Charlatan, a one-man show he wrote and performed, which spotlighted Russian ballet impresario Serge Diaghilev, brought Tanner additional success later in his career,

Milwaukee Rep has been cleared by unions to re-open! and has announced its 2020-21 season:
The theatre has successfully collaborated with Actors’ Equity Association, the International Association of Theatrical Stage Employees, United Scenic Artists and Stage Directors & Choreographers Society to develop safety protocols that will enable live performances to begin again on December 1, 2020 for Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol, assuming conditions in the local area at the targeted start date support going forward. Milwaukee Rep is the first theater in the state of Wisconsin to be approved by all unions to reopen if COVID conditions allow.
2020-21 Season:
* Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol (Dec. 1-13), a solo show by Tom Mula, directed by Mark Clements, starring Lee E. Ernst.
* A.D. 16 (Feb. 5 – Mar. 7, 2021), world premiere by Cinco Paul & Bekah Brunstetter, directed by Stephen Brackett, with music direction by Christopher Youstra.
