Today’s Highlights:

  Sunset Baby, by Dominique Morisseau, directed by Steve H. Broadnax III, featuring Russell Hornsby (Kenyatta), Moses Ingram (Nina), and J. Alphonse Nicholson (Damon), opens at at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre.

  The Animal Kingdom, by Ruby Thomas, directed by Jack Serio, featuring David Cromer, Tasha Lawrence, Lily McInerny, Uly Schlesinger, and Calvin Leon Smith, opens at Off-Broadway’s Connelly Theater Upstairs.

  Munich Medea: Happy Family, world premiere by Corinne Jaber, directed by Lee Sunday Evans, featuring Crystal Finn (Caroline), Heather Raffo (Alice), and Kurt Rhoads (Father), begins previews at Off-Broadway’s WP Theater.

  Theater Resources Unlimited will present its 2024 TRU Voices New Plays Virtual Reading Series on Sun. Feb, 12 & 19, both at 4PM.  Each reading will be followed by a talkback.  Casting TBA.

  Rolling With The Punches (Feb. 18), by Joel S. Bailey, directed by Ben Rauch. Jo, held back more by how others see her than by her paralysis, resolves to find out if she can create a better life beyond the limited expectations others have for her. A compassionate play that highlights a part of the disabled community’s challenging fight to live lives as fully as others.

  Un Hombre: A Golem Story (Feb. 25 at ), by Stephen Caplin, directed by Fara Alvin.  A sculptor, is struggling to get back on track after the untimely death of her husband. She is suffering from intense artist’s block, and her son is withdrawn, failing Spanish, and unprepared for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah. All seems hopeless until a lot of wine and a little magic transform a hunk of clay into the answer to all of their problems. Or is it?

  Complete casting has been announced for Carson Kreitzer & Matt Gould’s Lempicka, to begin previews Mar. 19 and open Apr.14 at  the Longacre Theatre, directed by Rachel Chavkin, with choreography by Raja Feather Kelly.

  The true story of Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka, a young aristocrat-turned-artist who flees with her husband from the turmoil of the Russian Revolution for exile in Paris. Once there, Tamara meets her new muse, Rafaela, and claws her way to success.

  Michael Roberts’s Swimming in Jerusalem: A Modern Musical Parable, will run Feb. 8-11 at Theater 555, directed by Hannah Ryan.  BoxOffice@Theater55.com.

  Red Bull Theater (link NA) will present a discussion (not a reading or performance) of Shaw’s John Bull’s Other Island on Thurs. Feb. 1 at 6 PM. Sold out.

This is an exploration of the volatile relationship between Shaw and Yeats, with the universal need to create and communicate, the useful marriage of arts to activism, and the power of comedy. David Staller will be joined by Profession James Armstrong for the discussion.

Evan Rachel Wood (Audrey) and Darren Criss (Seymour) join the company of  Little Shop of Horrors tonight at the Westside Theatre.

  An all-new show centered on the theme of motherhood and features songs by Jule Styne, Stephen Schwartz, William Finn, Dolly Parson, James Taylor, and Brandi Carlile, who’s moving “The Mother” gives the show its title.

  Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays With Morrie, to run Mar. 1-23 (opening Mar. 7) at St. George’s Episcopal Church, adapted by Albom & Jeffrey Hatcher, and directed by Erwin Maas.

  Len Cariou (Morrie) and Chris Doming (Mitch).

  The play follows Albom as he reconnects with a former sociology professor after learning he’s battling the Lou Gehrig’s disease.
