  New York Theatre Workshop‘s Becoming Eve, by Emily Weinstein, continues through Apr. 27 at Abrons Art Center, directed by Tyne Rafaeli.

A week before the High Holidays, three rabbis find themselves in a room fighting to save a family by building a bridge between orthodoxy and modernity. One of these rabbis is Chava, the child of a dynastic Hasidic rabbinical family and destined to become a leader of the next generation before the revelation of her trans identity clashed explosively with the strictly gendered world in which she was raised. As we jump through memory—and wrestle with theology—truths and secrets emerge that ensure no one will read the old stories the same way again.

  Lincoln Center Theater will celebrate its 40th anniversary on Mon. May 19 with a Ruby Jubilee Gala on at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, directed by Jason Danieley, with music direction by Adam Rothenberg. The concert will feature songs from past LCT productions.

  Roger Bart, Stephanie J.    Coleman Domingo & Patricia McGregor’s Lights Out: Nat “King” Cole will run Apr. 30 – June 15 (opening May 19) at New York Theatre Workshop, directed by Patricia McGregor.

  Dulé Hill (Nat King Cole), Daniel J. Watts (Sammy Davis Jr.), Krystal Joy Brown, Kathy Fitzgerald, Christopher Ryan Grant, Ruby Lewis, Elliott Mattox, Kenita Miller, Mekhi Richardson, and Walter Russell III.

  The play takes place on Dec. 17, 1957, the night of “The Nat “King” Cole Show‘s final broadcast. Despite being the voice that built Capitol Records, Nat “King” Cole’s groundbreaking television show was rejected by Madison Avenue, unwilling to sponsor America’s first black television host.

   The Kennedy Center’s upcoming concert production of Legally Blonde has been postponed. It was to have run June 13-22.

Broadway Center Stage artistic director Jeffrey Finn said “To be clear, this is not a Kennedy Center cancellation, and this is not due to any one person or persons involved with the show.”

 Atlantic Theater Company has announced that its 2024-25  season will resume now that the company has reached an agreement with IATSE.

  I’m Assuming You Know David Greenspan  (Mar. 29 – Apr. 30), world premiere by Mona Pirnot, directed by Ken Rus Schmoll.   One 69-year-old man plays four millennial women in a comedy (full of drama) about how to make a living as a playwright (or to try).

  Grief Camp (Apr. 5-May 11), by Eliya Smith, directed by Les Waters, featuring Arjun Athalye (Bard), Maaike Laanstra-Corn (Blue), Jack DiFalco (Cade), Adlden Harris-McCoy (Guitarist), Renée-Nicole Powell: (Olivia), Dominic Gross  (Gideon), Lark White (Ester), Danny Wolohan (Rocky), Amalia Yoo (No Hard Feelings), and Ignacio Diaz-Silverio (Primo),  The play follows the journey of grieving children and teens as they attend a camp designed to provide a safe and supportive environment where they can connect with peers who understand their experiences, process their emotions, and learn coping skills, ultimately finding joy and hope amidst their grief.

  A Freeky Introduction (May 16 – June 22), written by & starring NSangou Njikam, directed by Dennis A. Allen II.   A mix of poetry, ministry, and magic

  Lowcountry (June 4 – July 13), by Abby Rosebrock and directed by Jo Bonney.   A twisted romcom about the psychic distress of looking for love in the digital age and the carceral state.
