In 2013, Flora rode a motorcycle across Vietnam for six weeks, solo, in an attempt to make sense of her difficult relationship with her Vietnamese father. Flora was on a quest to understand why her father, who left his country during the war, never spoke about Vietnam. Since the answers she was looking for would never come from him, Flora went on a road trip across Vietnam, riding over 2000 miles in six weeks, from North Vietnam to the village of Sadec, her father’s hometown in the South, in an attempt to unearth her father’s secrets and reclaim the story of her origins.

Iris, who is ambitious and driven to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, is determined to control her work and is not interested in a relationship with her son.

A presentation of From a Yardie to a Yankee, written, directed & performed by Sardia Robinson, will place Sat. May 17 at 8 PM at LA’s Theatre West.
Born into a poverty-stricken Jamaican neighborhood where crime, gangs and political revolution were the norm, Sardia had to step over corpses in the street on her way to school. Then an unplanned pregnancy led to yet more hurdles. Sardia’s engaging and unique storytelling style takes audience members on an emotional rollercoaster ride fraught with peril, pain, suffering, but also filled with humor, endearing characters, and the undeterred spirit to survive.
